They call me the baby whisperer. I am good with babies, but most of my secret is my setup. Babies love loud white noise, or waterfall sounds, or mom’s heartbeat noises. This is what they’re used to in utero, and when I photograph them, they’re usually just a week or two outside of that environment where they’ve grown for 9 months. They’re also very accustomed to being squished and contorted in their mom’s womb, so no need to worry that they can’t be easily positioned in all sorts of ways. They usually just sleep through most or all of their session, in case you were wondering. And the other thing they really like is warmth. I keep my studio at a toasty 88 degrees year round. Sometimes the temperature can climb to 93 or more degrees. Mom, Dad and I will be sweating our tooshies off while baby sleeps soundly. If your baby is fussy, try heating up the room or just putting a space heater on them (on low so you don’t overheat their sensitive skin) throw on some loud white noise and wrap them up in something. This usually puts any baby right to sleep. Try it! In the meantime, check out my sweet little newborn studio, located in my Thousand Oaks home. The studio is located in our 3rd car garage, that was just itching to be made into a studio space. The cabinetry was already there and holds all my props and lights. The desk at the back is great for changing babies and getting them dressed/undressed for shoots. Parents hang out on the couch while I work with the babies on the small backdrop. Then the large roll of cream paper gets pulled down for sibling and parent shots with baby. It all works so well, and I’m loving my new continuous lighting instead of flash. It’s so much easier to work with! I love being a baby photographer!
Thanks for stopping by! If you’d like to leave a comment, I might just love you forever!
